      When Nancy Young's Breyer history books were published in the mids, I poured over them for hours and days and weeks. I pretty much read the first book (and the later updated book for that matter) cover to cover including all of the weird minutiae about variations, stamps, mold flaws, and other oddities in the footnotes about each : Kirsten Wellman.   To keep costs low, Breyer began using recycled, often colored, plastics during that time, often painting the mold with white base coat before applying the model's regular color. These have become known as "chalkies," because of the chalky look the white base coat gives their whites.

      Breyer Animal Creations® began as the Breyer Molding Company, a Chicago-based plastics manufacturer.
